General Plans and Ship's Drawings

During her life as a commissioned vessel in the US Navy, REQUIN was subjected to continous modification and updating. As such, each time modifications or updates were made to REQUIN's external or internal configurations, each change was documented in engineering drawings or ship's plans.

The following files, both in low-resolution and high-resolution versions, are among the 40 plus general plans or engineering drawings which are being held at the US National Archives in College Park, Maryland, unless otherwise noted.

Modification to Outboard Fittings - This drawing shows the external configuration of REQUIN after she was modified into her pre-MIGRAINE radar picket configuration and is the first conclusive proof I've found that REQUIN was, in fact, modified to the same configuration as SPINAX was. In the pre-MIGRAINE configuration, the SR-2 air search radar was mounted on deck, above the after engine room. The results of this, in which the SR-2 was subject to the same problems of the SV-2, i.e. water, shorting out, etc., led to the subsequent MIGRAINE II configuration, in which the SR-2 was moved to a non-retractable mount on the after cigarette deck.

These two photos of REQUIN's sister picket SPINAX show what REQUIN may have looked like in her pre-MIGRAINE configuration in the period of 1946 through 1947, just before going into the yards for modification to the MIGRAINE II configuration.
